Star Love began with a black beaded bra I recreated from a vintage 1950's cashmere sweater for a photo shoot. Influenced by my own mythology of the Stars, this goddess illustration marries Quezalcoatl, the Feathered-Serpent or Wind Jewel, a magical being of Meso-America, to the Blue Star Kachina of the Hopi Native American tribe.
For the Mayans and Aztecs, Quezalcoatl was related to gods of the wind, of the planet Venus, the dawn, merchants, arts, crafts, and knowledge. It's my own experience of birds as related to female goddesses and serpents to a kind of male life force that I've combined into Star Love.
I have always been fascinated by the ancient Hopi Indian prophecy, "When the Blue Star Kachina dances in the plaza, removes its mask and makes its appearance in the heavens, the Fifth World will emerge. This will be the Day of Purification."
The Hopi name for the star Sirius is Blue Star Kachina. While this may refer to a heavenly event, I see 'the plaza' as the center of humanity as well as the shining center of our individual lives. I think this day is available any day and will not happen on one 'day.' Unmasking the illusion of hatred and separation reveals our soft, human heart, dancing LOVE. Immediate access granted anytime, anywhere.
The central theme of the Kachina religion is the presence of life in all objects that fill the universe. Everything has an essence or a life force, and humans must interact with these or fail to survive. Being in peace nd nurturing oneself gives wings and access to the store of infinite possibility.

A living room with velvet couches, toasting champagne flutes where the most magical beings gather, tell ribald stories, dance and laugh like gods and goddesses. A plaza.
